Junk

This is junk. Will not work at all. Just get a blank black screen. Would like my money back

Very useful!

Exactly what I was looking for. I plan to use this app with KX2, QCX, and QSX in the future. Although I currently have none of these radios, the demo file gives me a very good understanding of what this app can do. Mind blown with the sdr/dsp stuff.

Outdated

I wish the developer would release an update with iPhone X display support. Goes to show how long it’s been since this app was updated. It’s nice to see my Xiegu G90’s waterfall on a larger screen (the radio only has a 1.8” display), but frustrating knowing it could be larger still.

Needs FT-8 mode

Any chance you would consider making an FT-8 encoding / decoding iPhone app? I think this would be very popular. 73! Jim - KH2SR Needs support for Apple Watch

Absolute garbage.

Absolute garbage.

ISDR

For 99 cents it's hard to complain about this app. Struggled with a few poor connections but once the iMic was properly connected to the KX3 everything worked as advertised. Panadapter bandwidth is limited to a max of 44 kHz as near as I can tell, but the resolution on the iPad was great, and it was easy to locate strong signals and relatively open spots in the cw bands to facilitate working expeditions. No point and click to tune the radio obviously, but a great addition to the KX3 if you're carrying an iPad or iPhone already.

Panadapter for KX3

I bought this app to use as a Panadapter with my Elecraft KX3. For only 99 cents it's a real bargain. I connect the iPad to my radio through a Griffin iMic and the Apple camera connection kit. I use the tuning knob on the radio and watch the peaks on the spectrum display move left or right, depending on which direction I'm tuning. When a peak is at the center of the display, I hear that station coming out of my radio. The waterfall display is a lot harder to use this way, so I only use the spectrum display. I hope Digital Confections will add a dual spectrum/waterfall display like on Elecraft's panadapter. That's the only reason I didn't give the app 5 stars.

Really?

This app does nothing with software defined radio. It just "gives you the experience of software defined radio using sampled data."

Works.

Tried application with IQ samples dumped from others receivers and works great. however I am wondering and requesting support for the USB RTL-SDR dongles. Preferable via a direct usb connection through the camera connection kit. Or via RTL_TCP (samples over the Internet live)/ IQ sample dumps. It would be awesome, because then I could avoid buying a nexus for mobile SDR usage.

Not working

Crashes immediately after launch. Haven't seen anything yet about a fix. Maybe not interested in making it work with previous versions of the OS. Glad I didn't pay for this.

Crashes on startup

Previous version worked, the latest version does not. Running iOS 6.1.3.

Update keeps crashing!

After update it will not load. Was 5 star!

Crashes on startup

Got an update today for iSDR and now the app crashes after the splash screen. Will provide a better review if the author fixes this problem.

Great SDR file analyzer

If you don't understand what this is, don't download it and then make useless remarks in a review. It's not a receiver, not by itself anyway. While you could use it real time by routing the iq stream from an external receiver to the mic input I "feed it" prerecorded IQ files I generate from a digital receiver connected to a PC. This software provides portable, offline analysis and demodulation of signals within the recorded spectrum of the file. Pretty amazing feat give the limited horsepower in an iPad. 73 ab1jv

SDR is NOT shortwave streaming

SDR is Software Defined Radio and needs an external receiver ("radio") plugged into your audio/microphone jack of your iPhone. The app is the controlling software for the external radio. There are also Windows and OS X applications that will let you do the same thing. The sample files in this app are just to give a taste of how the app works. This app does not stream shortwave radio nor is it supposed to. Please read the description of this app and google SDR or Software Defined Radio before downgrading the app. Not affiliated with iSDR. Just a SWL/Ham enthusiast.

Very... Very fake.

This is a completely fake app. It provides no real shortwave live streaming. The audio is prerecorded voices and morse code just to make people who don't know anything about shortwave get excited.

...

Only getting same three recorded signals despite choosing multiple frequencies 1000's apart.

Cool but confusing

I like this app if I knew how to use it the directions aren't really clear. I have the shortwave radio skills of a walkie talkie. Pls let me know how to better use it because I am a boy scout and I need to be able to have a walkie talkie on my phone.

Awesome app

I just got this app and now I can listen to any shortwave radio station whenever I want, wherever I want!

Great beginning!

This is a fantastic idea for an app, and I am glad it's freeware! Some points for improvement: 1. The user interface needs to be more user friendly. For instance, trying to lock the frequency at a certain point almost always ends up affecting/moving the reception slider bar instead. 2. There should be a recording function. 3. The sound should play even when the app is minimized. 4. There ought to be an official front end that can be purchased separately for this app. It should be pre-built, tested for use with idevices, and should include an antenna. A separate antenna with a ferrite rod should be optional for good AM reception. Keep up the good work!

Excellent SDR App

This app is totally cool. I am looking for interesting and innovative ways to introduce my kids to computers and radio, and this app has massive appeal. It has beautiful visual display, integrates computers and radio, involves the iPad, shows how different transmission modes all share the same bandwidth, etc. I don't yet have an RF front-end, but the downloadable files are perfect for my current needs. Neat stuff and totally worth the price.

Not multi-tasking compatible

You STILL can't put the app into the background and it keep working. Major drawback.

Clever app

I like it!

Excellent Program & Support

iSDR is an excellent software defined receiver (SDR) program, both as a demonstrator of the technology and as a live receiver in its own right when used with your own separately provided radio frequency (RF) front end that converts radio signals to digitized I/Q signals. It covers all the major modes (CW, USB, LSB, AM, FM, and Binaural), provides bandwidth settings appropriate to each mode, and allows use with prerecorded spectrum recordings or live use off the air when connected to an RF front end. It is easy to tune around the display, change modes and bandwidth, and the audio quality is very good. Display choices are spectrum scope (panadapter), waterfall, and audio oscilloscope. The history of this program shows that it is well supported and enhanced. For example, when it was recently discovered that the signal level for weak signals was a bit too low to be displayed with certain hardware combinations, the program was quickly updated to version 3.3 in about two weeks with a capability to adjust the signal floor. Problem solved! The developer's support site and forums are very helpful, including information about RF front ends, how to use prerecorded spectrum recording files, which Apple devices are supported, and which external hardware works with which Apple device. I use a Griffin iMic (and the Apple Camera Connection Kit USB adapter) with my iPad 2 and a Sonoma Wire Works Guitar Jack 2 (and the free GuitarTone app from iTunes for adjusting settings, including signal level) with my iPhone 4S. iSDR works beautifully with both these hardware setups connected to my Elecraft KX3 portable amateur radio transceiver. iSDR is fun, useful, and robust. Short wave radio listeners and amateur radio operators will find the program to be very helpful. 73 de WF4Z

iSDR

This is an outstanding application. I use it extensively to practice CW copy. Support is quick and personal.

What a great App !!!

This is an amazing app that does everything I would expect from an expensive paid app. Certainly the center piece for a great QRP or Field Day go kit.

Crashes

Crashes on initial start up splash screen on my iPad 3 also.

Great- but

Worked great, and then it just quit working when I installed e new version. Hope it gets fixed, as there's nothing at all like it.

iSDR 3.0

Great app, used with recordings and was amazed! Waiting on a SoftRock Lite to test it live, but I am sure it will perform great! Thanks for making SDR portable. K7SWF
